Here’s a list of websites that offer information about the various anxiety disorders. You will note that, owing to the overwhelming preponderance of evidence, even the objective national organizations have concluded that among the hundreds of therapies out there, CBT is the most effective for alleviating the symptoms of anxiety. I have singled out what are likely to be the most helpful pages -- just click on the name of the organization.

    American Psychological Association
The primary national association of psychologists. Their section on Anxiety Disorders and Effective Treatment is especially useful.

    Anxiety Disorders Association of America
A highly-regarded clearinghouse of information. The page called Understanding the Facts leads to links about specific anxiety disorders and a discussion of which treatments are most effective.

Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies
National organization with lots of information about CBT and what to expect in treatment.

    National Institute of Mental Health
This federal agency provides research-based conclusions about the treatment of anxiety. It has useful information about CBT and also explains about the medications that are frequently prescribed along with therapy.

    International OCD Foundation
This well-respected non-profit provides objective OCD information for sufferers and their families. The About OCD section is top-notch.

    Trichotillomania Learning Center
Their website has useful information about compulsive hair-pulling and skin-picking and the kinds of treatment that are most effective for these problems.
