Q: "My family has a hard
time understanding my problem. Do you provide any family services?"
A: "Yes, if clients give us permission, we have found it helpful to meet with
the family to educate them about OCD, and to show them ways they can help in the
clients recovery."
Q: "I have had anxiety problems for over ten years. Will it take that long
to get better?"
A: "The length of time you've had the disorder doesn't determine how long it
will take to get over it. The speed of recovery is determined by how diligently
you practice the therapeutic exercises you will be taught."
Q: "What is the average length of treatment?"
A: "Clients can usually complete the treatment in 10 to 25 visits, at which
time their symptoms have been significantly reduced or eliminated. However, in
more difficult cases, more time may be needed."
Q: "Do you prescribe medications?"
A: "As psychologists, we do not prescribe medications. However, we can refer
clients to a consulting psychiatrist to handle medication issues."
Q: "I've heard that behavior therapy doesn't work for cases of obsessions
without compulsions, also known as pure obsessions. Is this true?"
A: "This is not true. Behavior therapy is quite effective with so-called pure
obsessions. In these cases, contrary to what was originally thought, compulsions
do exist. These compulsions are mental, and not being observable they were not
addressed, which caused treatment to fail. We address these mental compulsions
and therefore have high rates of success with so-called pure obsessions."
Q: "Do you take insurance?"
A: "Yes. We are usually able to work out contracts with various insurance
companies to cover part or all of the treatment.
Q: "Are there any age requirements?"
A: " There are no age requirements. We work with children, adolescents, and
adults." |
